I am sick of having a sore throat. It really hurts when i swallow . I've been on MTX for about five years and its only this last year my throat has bothered me.
The nurse suggested i miss a dose of MTX. There are people a lot worse than me with RA i know. The MTX keeps me fairly pain free and quite well so i suppose the sore throats are maybe better than sore joints etc. Sorry for moaning but i just had to tell someone . Kathleen Mc.

Ah sorry to hear that you have a bad throat.

Perhaps ring RA nurse she may say stop next dose and then it may
make the throat go away Worth a phone call

Hi Kathleen,

I too have had a very sore throat which ended up with no voice, I have been really unwell with it. I missed my MTX last Friday when it was really sore, I did take it a few days later but to be honest with you I have been so stressed out I cannot remember when. It wont do any harm to miss it on the odd occasion, I always feel if I am ill and take it I will get worse. Not sure if this is the case but it has never done me any harm. I do hope you feel better soon.

Take care Lorna Smile

Hi Kathleen

Methotrexate comprises the immune system so in order to get it working again to fight the throat infection it is recommended that the drug is stopped until the infection is clear. Continuing the meds whilst the infection is still in the system tends to prolong it. So, I think you're probably right Lorna, the infection could actually continue to worsen as the body doesn't have sufficient capacity to fight it. Hence you may well feel a whole lot worse! Sad

Hope you feel better soon Kathleen,

Thanks for the replies. I have given the mtx a miss this week so hopefully my throat will clear up soon.
